Rope access techniques are becoming a more common alternative for reaching work areas that may otherwise require expensive equipment and time consuming set up. Access techniques are used for inspections, infrequent maintenance or anytime work platforms are not practical.
Basic Access Techniques focuses on the use of self lowering and ascending systems to gain access to difficult access work locations. The student learns how to lower into position using backup systems to protect himself. Positioning for the work can involve ascending and protected traverses. Any worker who uses these techniques must be able to provide a self rescue in the event of an equipment failure or malfunction. The student learns alternative ways to descend or ascend and when to call for help
